DANVILLE- the newly-formed-Valley Township Fire Company won the first place prize Saturday afternoon in the pumping contest on the East End Fire Company, Mahoning Township grounds.
Finishing second after a playoff with Valley was the Friendship of Danville. The contest was sponsored by Henry Voelcker distributors, Danville, and the winning team members received windbreakers and the team received a trophy.
Thirteen teams from Danville, Mahoning and Valley Township and Riverside competed in the contest which involved knocking down a suspended beer keg with water from a hose.
Local fire company officials said they hope the event will become an annual affair and involve fire companies from adjoining counties.
The first and second place teams emerged from a field of four. Friendship defeated the Goodwill champs and Valley defeated Washies diesel team to enter the final playoff.
